My one message: don’t binge-watch the lessons
This is a short bonus video, not an official lesson. I just have one message for you: please don’t binge-watch these lessons.
I see it a lot on YouTube: people watch one lesson, then the next, and the next, all on the same day or within a couple of days. Honestly, that means a lot to me, and I love that you want to watch everything! But it’s not the best way to learn a language.
How often should you study Spanish?
Here’s what I recommend instead:
- Watch one lesson.
- Take what you learned, the words, the phrases, the grammar, and really work with it: write it down, make flashcards, say it out loud.
- Wait until you’re ready, for example a couple of days, before you watch the next lesson.
So: not five lessons in one evening, and not one lesson after another every single day without practicing in between.
(Wes’s tip)
A good rhythm for most people is 2 or 3 lessons a week, with a few minutes of practice every day. A little bit, often, beats a lot, once in a while.
Why taking it slow works better
- Your brain needs time to store new words. If you learn 50 new words in one day, most of them are gone by next week. If you learn 15 and review them for a few days, they stick.
- Every lesson builds on the one before. If lesson 6 isn’t clear yet, lesson 10 will feel a lot harder than it needs to be.
- You avoid burnout. Rushing feels great for a few days, and then it becomes too much. Going steady is how you actually make it to lesson 200.
Already know some Spanish?
Everyone starts at a different level. If some lessons are mostly review for you, feel free to go through those faster. But for most people who watch my videos, I really recommend taking it nice and slow.
Learning a language takes time, and that’s okay
Just like anything good in life, learning a language takes time. So my message is simple: don’t rush it. Take your time, enjoy the process, and you’ll get there.
And while I have you here: a huge thank you for watching my lessons. It really means the world to me, and I hope you’re getting a lot of value out of them. ¡Gracias!
Next: lesson 9
Ready, and did you practice lesson 8? Then I’ll see you in lesson 9. ¡Adiós!
