A free Spanish course for beginners
Welcome! This is the start of my free Spanish course: 200 video lessons that take you from your very first words to real, everyday conversations. You can learn Spanish online for free, at your own pace. No app, no account, no credit card. Just press play.
I made this course because I learned Spanish from scratch myself. I know how confusing it can be to find the right information, so I put everything in one clear path, step by step, in the order that makes the most sense.
Who this course is for
This course is for anyone who wants to learn Spanish, whatever your level:
- Complete beginners. You don’t need any Spanish to start. Lesson 1 begins from zero.
- People who know a few words. Maybe you know some basic words and phrases, but can’t make sentences yet.
- Learners who feel stuck. You know some grammar and verbs, but there are gaps. The first lessons might feel easy, but stick with it: you’ll fill gaps you didn’t know you had.
What you’ll learn in chapter 1
The first 25 lessons make up chapter 1 of the course. Together, they cover all the basics of the Spanish language:
- Vocabulary: the everyday words you’ll use all the time
- Grammar: how Spanish sentences are built
- Verbs: the most used verbs and how to conjugate them
- Important rules that every Spanish learner should know
Everything is explained in a way that’s easy to understand, with lots of examples to help you really get it, not just memorize it.
What’s in the full course
The complete course has 200 lessons and takes you from zero to an intermediate level, roughly B1. Here’s a taste of what you’ll learn along the way:
- Pronunciation: the alphabet, the vowels and where to put the accents (tildes)
- Grammar basics: articles, subject pronouns, question words, negative sentences, plurals and prepositions
- The most used verbs: ser, estar, tener, querer, poder, ir, hacer and many more, with their conjugations
- Vocabulary for real life: ordering at a restaurant or café, food and drinks, travel, family, hobbies, colors and numbers
- Talking about your life: the present, the past and your plans for the future
You’ll find the full list of lessons on the free course page, where you can also tick off the lessons you’ve finished.
How every lesson works
Each lesson has its own page, just like this one. Here’s how to get the most out of it:
- Watch the video at the top of the page.
- Read the lesson below the video. It has everything from the video, with examples you can review anytime.
- Get the reference sheet. Most lessons have a free PDF with everything on one page. Fill in your email and I’ll send it to you.
- Practice with the exercises at the end of the lesson.
(Wes’s tip)
Go through the lessons in order. Every lesson builds on the one before it. And don’t rush: a few lessons a week works much better than a marathon once a month.
Can you really learn Spanish for free?
Yes. You don’t need an expensive course or app to build a solid foundation. With clear lessons, a bit of practice and consistency, you can get really far on your own. This course gives you that foundation.
To actually get fluent, you’ll also need lots of listening and speaking: with a tutor, a language exchange or Spanish-speaking friends. The more you use what you learn, the faster it sticks. And whenever you need to look up a verb, my Spanish verb conjugation charts are there for you too.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Spanish course really free?
Yes! All 200 lessons and the reference sheets are free, forever. You can watch every lesson here or on YouTube.
Do I need to sign up?
No. You can watch every lesson without an account. Only for the reference sheets, you fill in your name and email, so I can send the PDF to your inbox.
Is it good for complete beginners?
Definitely. The course starts from zero and builds up step by step, so you never have to guess what to learn next.
I already know some Spanish. Is this course still for me?
Yes! The first lessons might feel easy, and that’s fine: go through them a bit faster, but don’t skip them completely. Even if you know the words, you’ll often pick up details you missed before, like pronunciation, accents or small grammar rules. Most learners find gaps they didn’t know they had. And before you know it, you’ll reach the lessons that are new to you.
What type of Spanish will I learn?
I keep it as neutral as possible, so you’ll be understood everywhere in the Spanish-speaking world. Where Spain and Latin America do things differently, I show you both, like vosotros (Spain) and ustedes (Latin America).
How far will this course take me?
From zero to an intermediate level, roughly B1. You’ll understand the basics of the language, talk about your life, your past and your plans, and follow simple conversations. The more effort you put in, the further you’ll get.
