In this lesson, we go over the gerund in Spanish (the -ando / -iendo form).

You’ll learn how to form the gerund for regular verbs, along with the irregular and stem-changing forms like leyendo, durmiendo, and diciendo. We break everything down step by step with clear examples, so you can use the gerund naturally in everyday conversation. By the end, you’ll know exactly when and how to use this key part of the language.

We’ll cover how to build the gerund (hablando, comiendo, viviendo), the spelling and stem changes to watch out for (leyendo, pidiendo, durmiendo), and how it combines with estar to form the present progressive (estoy comiendo — I’m eating). We’ll also look at other uses, like expressing how you do something (aprendo escuchando música — I learn by listening to music). Master these patterns and you’ll add a whole new layer of expression to your Spanish.

I hope you find this lesson helpful!
